Foundational Courses
Intro to Fashion History: Learn about the rich contributions of Black creatives to the fashion industry, explore major movements, and understand how Black culture and innovation have shaped the fashion world today.
Industry Basics & Insights: Gain a comprehensive understanding of how the fashion industry operates, from key roles and career paths to the fundamentals of sustainable practices and the business of fashion. Explore how fashion brands are built, the importance of ethical production, and strategies for navigating this ever-evolving industry as an aspiring professional.
Technical Skills Development
Sewing Techniques: Learn hand-sewing and machine-sewing fundamentals, from simple stitches to advanced techniques.
Design Techniques: Discover the process of creating original designs, focusing on sketching, mood boards, and visual storytelling.
Pattern Making: Understand the art of drafting patterns, making adjustments, and creating custom pieces from scratch.

Students will be assigned a fashion-related creative project, where they’ll collaborate with peers under the guidance of a program alum. This will help them develop teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

Students will work closely with their assigned mentors to hone their skills, reach specific goals, and gain personalized guidance throughout the program. A targeted development plan will be created to guide progress.

Workshops: A series of workshops led by industry professionals will provide hands-on insights into the fashion industry, covering a range of topics such as career development, business strategies, and sustainable fashion.
Expert Talks: Students will have the opportunity to meet and learn from seasoned fashion leaders, gaining valuable perspectives and advice from those with real-world experience.
Networking Mixers: Students will engage with fashion industry professionals and program alumni, building a network that will support their career development.
Graduation Ceremony: The program will conclude with a graduation ceremony on August 30, 2026.
For Students & Parents
Eligibility:
Black teens ages 14–18 with an interest in a fashion career. (No prior experience required.)
What to Expect:
Our program is 100% virtual, so you can participate from anywhere! You’ll join online fashion courses (Black Fashion History, Business of Fashion, Sustainable Fashion, Fashion Design), collaborate on alumni-led creative projects, and meet one-on-one with a fashion professional. All sessions follow Eastern Standard Time (EST), so be sure to plan accordingly.
Resources Provided:
If needed, we’ll provide you with a sewing machine, sewing kit, and fabric to fully participate in our Fashion Design courses. All students will receive a month of career prep, including workshops, expert talks, networking events, and chances to apply for internships and volunteer opportunities.

Approx. 60 hours total across six months
(Hours may vary slightly)
March–April: 4 hrs/week × 9 weeks = 36 hours
May: 2 hrs/week × 5 weeks = 10 hours
June–July: 1 hr/week × 9 weeks = 9 hours
August: 5+ hours total

Registration opens September 15, 2025, and closes November 15, 2025 (11:59 PM EST)

Applications may be requested after this date, but they are not guaranteed, as priority will be given to those on the waitlist.

A recommendation from a teacher, mentor, or employer
A 3–5 paragraph essay
